On June 21, the Greater Easley Chamber of Commerce hosted its third Thursday business luncheon to honor retiring president, Kent Dykes, for his dedicated service to the Easley Chamber. Speaking to a sell-out audience at DunBurks Premier Events, remarks were given by Dr. Brian Swords, Chairman of the Easley Chamber Board of Directors; Sean Thornton, Chairman of the Powdersville Business Council; and Fox Simons, Easley City Administrator. In addition, written remarks from U.S. Congressman Jeff Duncan, who was unable to attend the luncheon, were read. Kent was also recognized for his support of the Miss Easley Pageant Scholarship Program, and was honored with a Key to the City by the City of Easley. And as a token of their appreciation for Kent’s service, the Chamber Board of Directors presented several special gifts to Kent on behalf of the chamber and its Ambassador committee, culminating with the presentation of a “retirement rocking chair”, which was signed by those in attendance.
Kent Dykes joined the Greater Easley Chamber of Commerce in January 2005, after 33 years of service with Milliken. In his role as chamber president, Kent successfully implemented new programs and services at the chamber, grew the chamber membership to over 440 active members, and forged many local partnerships to promote healthy business development in the Easley area. Thanks to his strong leadership and commitment to community, the Greater Easley Chamber of Commerce stands on firm ground, both financially and programmatically, and is positioned for future growth and success.
Easley Chamber Board Chairman, Dr. Brian Swords, stated, “Kent is going to be missed. He has epitomized the true definition of a community servant. He’s been a true staple to the Easley community, and a great friend to so many of us. We wish him the best in his retirement.” Sean Thornton, Chairman of the Powdersville Business Council, added, “On behalf of the Easley Chamber of Commerce and Powdersville Business Council, I would like to offer my sincere thanks and best wishes to Kent Dykes for over eight years of leadership and guidance at the chamber. Kent’s honesty, integrity, and sense of community have helped to shape a very healthy and business friendly City of Easley. Happy Retirement, Kent.”
After his retirement from the Greater Easley Chamber of Commerce, Kent plans to tackle activities on his personal “bucket list”, which includes enjoying more time at his cabin on Lake Hartwell, hiking, spending time with his grandson, and traveling with his wife, Chris. But amid his retirement activities, Kent also plans to remain actively engaged in the Easley community, where he has lived for 37 years.
